With most of their offense healthy for the playoffs, the Chiefs are excited to optimize their wideout tandem of Xavier Worthy and Marquise "Hollywood" Brown.

With the postseason officially here, the Kansas City Chiefs are just days away from their first outing of the NFL's single-elimination tournament. They'll do so coming off a scorching 15-2 effort in the regular season, and there's something else working in their favor as well.

Despite wide receiver Rashee Rice being out for the playoffs, this could be the healthiest version of Kansas City. In turn, the offense might just be stronger now than it has been at any point in the year. With a trio of rookie Xavier Worthy and veterans Marquise "Hollywood" Brown and DeAndre Hopkins leading the way, there's a good mix of dynamic athleticism and football IQ to count on.

The Worthy-Brown duo, specifically, has the Chiefs excited about the next week-plus. Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy believes the return of Brown from injury has helped Worthy's slow-burning debut campaign finally take off.

"Yeah, I love it," Nagy said. "Again, you've heard me relate it to Rashee, but that's real. Xavier's done a great job of staying patient the entire season. He's been great with the players. It's been a fun process for him and now, as we continue to kind of go into these moments and these games he's going to realize that when we get to the playoffs, it steps up even more and things get even faster. It's been really fun to see this offense start to come together, and getting Hollywood back too certainly helps that."

Worthy is indeed experiencing the Rice-like jump Kansas City hinted at weeks ago. His last seven games extrapolate to 95 receptions for 952 yards and seven touchdowns over the course of a 17-game season. Pass game coordinator (and former receivers coach) Joe Bleymaier attributes that improvement to talent, smarts, versatility and work ethic.

"I think it speaks to his intelligence and his ability to continue to grow and continue to progress week-to-week, not hit a rookie wall, not be satisfied with one particular niche or one type of receiver," Bleymaier said. "He's been open to expanding all of his routes and then being used in different ways. I think it speaks to him. He's been healthy, he's come with a great attitude, trying to learn [and] trying to get better.

"And then with that, it's evolved some of those routes and some of the different ways that he's been used. It's a credit to him. There's a lot on his plate: being used in different positions, being asked to do different things, getting out of the huddle in different situations. It's a credit to him that we are able to put him in those different spots because in the past, maybe there have been guys that have been limited to one or smaller niche-type routes."

With Worthy trending the way the coaching staff wants him to, the club's focus can shift to optimizing its rotations for the postseason. Having Brown in the lineup after a preseason shoulder injury is a massive plus, as his presence has a ripple effect on everyone else. In his two games played late in the regular season, he hauled in nine passes for 91 yards and left plenty of production on the table. A three-headed monster of him, Worthy and Hopkins allows each player to serve a particular purpose on offense and take some pressure off tight end Travis Kelce.

Much like last year, the development of the Kansas City offense has taken longer than many – including the team – likely hoped. With that said, things are looking up with the star rookie and savvy vet(s) hitting their stride. Saturday's divisional round game against the Houston Texans may be just the third for Brown as a Chief, but the most dangerous rendition of the offense could be on the horizon.

"I think he started to integrate to where we kind of envisioned him this season," Bleymaier said of Brown. "He's dynamic, he's a natural receiver, he's got playmaking abilities – it comes naturally to him. Just getting back into the flow, although he has all that natural ability, just doing it again and being in the live fire, I think, is good for him just to get back to where he was. You're starting to see kind of where he left off in August. Hoping that in January and February, he can just really take off."

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Several businesses in the Kansas City metro area were broken into overnight, leading business owners to call for change.

Seven Swans Creperie claims that its location in downtown Kansas City, Missouri was broken into, the thieves making off with cash and a safe.

“We were broken into early this morning. Front window shattered, freezing air blowing in, cash drawer emptied, safe stolen, and our little bowl of baby swans that we give to all our littlest customers was thrown all over the restaurant,” a post from the creperie reads.

“Stunned and saddened. After already losing last Sunday to the winter storm, now we are one week again back to back closed on our biggest day.”

With KC Restaurant Week rolling on through the 19th, the break-ins couldn’t come at a worse time. Additionally, Seven Swans was set to celebrate its anniversary.

“Today is our 5th birthday to the day of our grand opening January 12, 2020. We are resilient, just like all of our other neighbors who’ve dealt with this insanity for the past year. But this has to STOP!!” the post continues.

La Bodega, which also participates in KC Restaurant Week was also hit overnight. It’s the third time in six weeks the restaurant has been broken into.

“La Bodega was again broken into with multiple windows broken out. This is the 3rd time in the last 6 weeks. The city and the leadership MUST make immediate changes or lose all of their retail and restaurants,” their statement reads.

On the Kansas side, Garden House Cafe got broken into as well. The cafe claims they were back open for business, however.

“Thanks for showing up today, Kansas City. In the span of a few hours, we responded to the break-in, we boarded up, and we opened back up,” a statement from the cafe reads.

“You then proceeded to knock our butts off with support and affirmation, smiles, messages of love, bags of coffee purchased, lots and lots of lattes, and our hearts are with you and our community.”

Additionally, the Sagebrush Cocktail Bar is calling on its customers after another break-in.

“If you’re ever going to support local now’s the time,” their statement says.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Snow across the Kansas City metro is finally started to melt following last weekend’s snowstorm and more snow falling Thursday night into Friday morning.

Multiple cities in the metro are delaying trash pickup for the week as city crews continue working to clear the roads.

Here’s a list of how trash pickup will work in some metro cities into next week:

Kansas City, Missouri

The City of Kansas City, Missouri announced trash and recycling pickup resumed on Friday, Jan. 10. There will be extra bags collected on Friday for those that did not have their trash picked up on Friday, Jan. 3.

Residents will be allowed to have two extra bags for next week’s trash pickup. No bag tags are needed for extra bags.

Kansas City, Kansas

Solid Waste Management in Wyandotte County announced on Thursday that it has canceled all residential trash and recycling pickup for the week. Regular service will resume on Monday, Jan. 13.

Olathe

The City of Olathe announced earlier this week that there would be a one-day delay for trash pickup throughout the week.

Liberty

The City of Liberty announced there is no delay for trash and recycling pickup this week. Republic Services is collecting trash and recycling for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, however, there may be some spots hey can’t get to due to road conditions.

If your trash / recycling is missed on your normal trash day, they will not be back for it this week. You can put out up to 6 extra bags (that are securely tied shut) next week.

Monday and Tuesday routes that were cancelled can put out up to 6 additional bags (securely tied shut) next week.

Prairie Village

Prairie Village canceled trash and recycling pickup for Monday and Tuesday routes. Those residents can put out extra trash and yard waste next week.

Lawrence

The City of Lawrence announced that trash and recycling pickup is running on limited service through Saturday, with all normal pickup days delayed by one day. Due to snow drifts and icy terrain, some areas may remain inaccessible.

GFL, which provides trash service to several area communities, including Mission, North Kansas City and Belton, suspended services Monday and resumed service on Tuesday. To resume normal service sooner, GFL will not be collecting yard waste for the week of Jan. 6. but will collect double the amount of yard waste the week of Jan. 13. GFL did not say when service will be back to normal.

The mayor of Kansas City, Missouri, applauded city staff for their efforts to plow snow following Sunday's storm.

On Thursday, KCMO Mayor Quinton Lucas gave the city an A-minus grade for the job, even if the job isn’t totally complete. Drivers continue working in 12-hour shifts clearing the nearly one foot of snow which fell.

"Nobody is ever perfect," Lucas said. "I think we continue to pursue getting every street addressed. But I think it was a really darn good response. I'd give an A-minus."

Lucas said the city's made changes to its snow response in the past four years. Those changes are paying off in the way of improved service.

"When I was growing up in Kansas City, the story was, 'You go to the suburbs and everything is perfect,' 'You go to the city, and everything is not,'" Lucas said as he reiterated a narrative KSHB 41 News has heard before. "With respect to all of our peers around the region, I think you've seen that change a bit."

Changes to the snow plan were the product of KCMO City Manager Brian Platt, who took over in December of 2020.

The following the year, the city began implementing four main changes to its plow routine:

"It's going to continue to get better. We're not where we want to be, but we are going to get better," KCMO director of Public Works Michael Shaw said. "So we have changed expectations because we are delivering a higher, better quality service."

The changes seem to be changing opinions from residents.

"Considering how much snow came and how fast it was, I’m pretty satisfied," Shawn Colby, a KCMO resident, said.

"This year seems to be better," added Eileen Cohen. "It's always the side streets, but what do you do? But I think they did a good job, it was a blizzard."

"Honestly, I feel like they could do better with the side streets and stop pushing the snow people just shoveled back in front of their yard," DJ Juan said, offering some advice to the city.

At Thursday’s council meeting, members introduced a resolution asking the city manager to review snow removal plans. The proposal should come up for more discussion next week.
